Blogger Amani Richardson shares how she uses her platform for positivity

Amani Richardson is a millennial girl boss who is all about positivity and influence.

Who is Amani Richardson?

I am a lifestyle blogger just journeying through my 20-somethings. I am passionate about creating safe spaces and platforms for women of color to share their stories through depression and self-love by simply being authentic and transparent about my own journey.

What keeps you motivated?

Journaling/Writing keeps me motivated. Even through some of my toughest times, I find that releasing my thoughts on paper allows me to perceive life a lot clearer.

Tell me about your position as the social media coordinator at Every Stylish Girl?

Literally, the best thing ever. I never knew I loved Social Media Editing until I started my work with EveryStylishGirl. My main tasks are creating stories for the Blog and creating content for the Twitter account. A lot of it is a team effort in finding the latest and most trendy stories. I think what I love most is being able to have the freedom to find my own voice and writing style through highlighting these amazing stories of women who look just like me.

What does being a girl boss mean to you?

To be a Girl Boss means to have a passion and always live your truth. Being a Girl Boss means to walk with purpose and confidence knowing exactly what you want out of life. A woman who knows exactly what she wants in life is a woman destined for greatness and she will never fall short.

How do you use your platform for positivity?

My main platforms being Instagram and my Blog, I like to do daily polls each morning to ask my followers questions about mental health and just all things about themselves. I find that people really like to answer questions about themselves and truly appreciate someone that is inquisitive about who they are. I love seeing people engage with my polls on my Insta Stories. Each of these polls is followed by tips and advice for a Black Girl who’s going through what the question may have been referring to. I get tons of positive feedback from women about it and it lets me know I’m doing something right. As for my Blog, I bring positivity by just being authentic and being as relatable as a can to my followers. I just try to be that ‘Blogger Sister’ that everyone needs.

What is your self-care routine?

Dealing with my depression these past few months it’s definitely changed a lot but in such an eye-opening way. Now my self-care routine is really focused on what’s going to allow me to feel less overwhelmed and really just doing what makes me happy. Most times, it’s taking a hot bubble bath, spending extra time on my skincare routine with a DIY face mask or allowing myself to get out and be around someone who holds a great conversation. These all allow me to feel like I’m making strides to better my emotional health. Each of these things is super rejuvenating. Oh, and cracking open a book that I’ve been neglecting forever. While reading I make sure to keep my phone in another room so I’m not even tempted to look at it. Reading has been such a great escape for me.

What advice do you have for women who are trying to pursue their passion and may be lost?

First, I’ll say it’s ok. It’s normal. Rarely does everyone know what their passions are and know exactly how to navigate them? But, I will say through your moments of confusion ask questions. Reach out to people who are currently doing your dream job. Never be afraid to slide in DMs or send emails! Secondly, take breaks to really do some intervention and always keep asking yourself why is this my dream or is this really someone else’s dream? Sometimes we get caught up in seeing how successful one dream has worked out for someone else, we think that path will work out for us too, but that’s actually never the case. So really just be transparent with yourself and write down your “Why” everywhere. In your notes on your phone, sticky notes, anywhere! Just never forget it, because it’s what’s always going to allow you to seek clarity when you feel like you’re drifting away.
