Greece is a bucket list destination for many and if you’ve never been I advise that you save your money, buy and flight and experience the beauty that the Mediterranean has to offer. I was blessed to be able to travel to the destination for my mom’s birthday in June. Like every Greek island, Mykonos has its own unique qualities that set it apart from the rest. Of the islands, Mykonos is probably one of the most popular due to its party island reputation, vibrant energy, colorful corridors, and tasty local cuisine. Mykonos is an expansive island full of countless beaches and adventures worth exploring.

Where to Stay:

If you’re a first-time traveler to Mykonos I would recommend that you stay near Mykonos Town (the heart of the city).

MYCONIAN VILLA COLLECTION

This beautiful 5-star hotel is situated right above Elia Bay. The Myconian Villa Collection is one of eight luxurious resort concept properties under the Myconian Collection brand. Leaning into the mountain, the terraced villas have uninterrupted views of the Aegean, entertainment deck with a cool bar, epicurean restaurant, and saltwater infinity pool. The rooms a beautifully decorated with white walls beautiful balconies with lounge chairs overlooking the hotel and the bay. The concierges were outstanding and very accommodating to every need we had. They can assist you with restaurant recommendations and reservations. This hotel is not located in the city center of Mykonos town, however, it is a part of a hotel group that provides shuttle buses to and from Mykonos town throughout the day and night. This was extremely convenient and cost-efficient because we never had to take a taxi. Our hotel also had a beautiful brunch buffet with an array of food options for everyone’s palate.

Where to Eat:

Souvlaki - This is a tasty casual gyros restaurant we stumbled upon our first night and it was delicious and affordable. They have traditional gyros and

Ristorante Diangilo - This was an amazing Italian located in Little Venice and the food was spectacular. The restaurant was quaint and the food was traditional offering pasta dishes, pizza, and salads.

Ling Ling - We went to this Asian restaurant for my mothers birthday and it was a beautiful evening with great food. They serve small Cantonese dishes and have unique cocktails. It was so beautifully decorated open-air restaurant and bar with private dining and a lounge.

What to Do:

Greece has so many activities that are attractive to tourists. They have beautiful beaches, great shopping, and so much rich culture. You can lounge by the pool as we did, visit a beach club for lunch or glass of wine, shop in the beautiful jewelry stores, or take an ATV ride around the island.

What to Expect:

In Greece, they don’t have the same kind of plumbings system that we do. Therefore, they do not allow you to flush toilet tissue. They ask you to place your tissue in a plastic bag that they provide near the toilets. This concept takes a moment to adjust to but after a couple of times, you will remember.

Traffic is hectic and the local people know how to navigate the windy landscapes that they know as roads. If you plan to rent a car or an ATV just proceed with caution.

Best Travel Time:

The best time to travel just depends on the kind of traveler you are and what you prefer. April to October are all great times to travel to Greece. April - June is a great time to travel if you warm weather and moderate tourists. June through August is the peak travel season on the island. It will be very crowded with tourists, flights and hotels will probably be more costly. July and August are the hottest months so plan accordingly.
